Judge Revokes Bond for Co-Defendant in NBA Gambling Case

Federal Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall ordered Deniro Laster into custody on August 11 after revoking his bond in the ongoing NBA gambling case. The ruling follows allegations that Laster violated court-ordered no-contact restrictions with co-defendants and potential witnesses.

Release Conditions and Court Proceedings

Prosecutors stated that Laster directly reached out to individuals covered by the no-contact order and attempted to intimidate a witness by sharing rat emojis on Instagram. Assistant US Attorney David Berman characterized the behavior as "utterly egregious." Defense attorney Corcoran noted that one contacted individual was not explicitly listed on the no-contact roster, but the court clarified that such orders generally require all communication to proceed through legal representatives. Judge Hall also rejected the defense position that bond revocation should only occur after a rearrest.

The legal proceedings involve former Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and center around a March 2023 Charlotte Hornets game. Prosecutors allege that Rozier shared advance details about his scheduled early exit with Laster, who subsequently relayed the information to sports bettors. Those individuals then placed wagers on Rozier’s statistical output, with the two defendants reportedly agreeing to a $70,000 payment arrangement.
