Company Nearly Loses 48,000 USDT Due to Untransferred Payment Provider Access

A finance manager recently identified a missing 48,000 USDT balance on a payment provider account during a scheduled reconciliation. The oversight occurred because system access was never transferred to the company password manager.

Reconciliation Findings

The discrepancy emerged during a bi-monthly audit of transaction statuses, USDT balances, fees, and exchange rates. Initial checks pointed toward a potential error on the provider side, but internal review revealed the root cause. The payment service provider had been integrated into the platform, yet the corresponding dashboard credentials were never logged in the corporate password manager. Consequently, finance and payment operations staff working subsequent shifts remained unaware of the account.

The funds were successfully withdrawn before any loss occurred. The incident highlights a procedural gap in vendor onboarding. System integration is considered complete only after access credentials are securely handed over, relevant personnel are formally notified, and the new provider is incorporated into standard reconciliation workflows.

The findings were reported by finance manager and reconciliation specialist Olga Schneider.
