The subsequent US arrest of Carruthers was unexpected, as he initially assumed public company status would ensure greater regulatory transparency. He later concluded that the company’s disclosed financial records provided investigators with required documentation, and his detention functioned as leverage in broader market negotiations.

Following the arrest, professional relationships shifted, with some colleagues offering support while others maintained distance.
